in Romania widely spread across the Carpathians but virtually absent from the Apuseni mountains

This is a Central European element which lives on the rocks placed mainly in the boreal belts of the mountains. Of a certain beauty, it was variously treated in Romanian flora books - Achillea distans Waldst. et Kit. ssp. alpina (Rochel) Soo, A. nivalis Porcius, A. tanacetifolia auct. carp. non All. Despite these various treatments yet the status of the Carpathian populations may not be resolved.
